Inspiration from Cardiff Museum

In May a small group of us went to Cardiff Museum to gather inspiration to create an art quilt and whilst we came away totally enthused all we seem to have achieved (apart from it being a lovely day out) is to have made many notes and sketches!

So, today a few of us got together to progress things.

Isobelle and Hilary got going on some fabric collage which will look fantastic when they are finished. Hilary initially did a sketch and overlay. A4 plastic comes in very handy!

And then she started to develop her idea.

Hilary was inspired by paintings of the Welsh landscape painter James Dickson Innes part of the Arenig school with Augustus John which she saw at the museum on our trip. Textile art by Josie Russell.

Monica was pleased that she finally got her piece of work underway, which was originally inspired by the Peter Blake exhibition. A screen print of the national anthem in the shape of the Wales map started things off and an image of a Welsh woman in traditional dress printed on the home printer followed. The text and love spoon have been cut out in freezer paper.

And, as well as getting going on the pieces of work there was still time to look at Hilary’s new book on textiles and photography which is incredible!
