On Saturday 11 May Cutting Edge members Monica Dennis and Caroline Neudegg visited Hampshire to support an initiative focused on making sanitary pads for Hyderabad, India. It was coorodinated by Caroline’s sister in law who had sent a call out to WIs in the Harts region for their support. Twenty women attended representing 7 of the 11 Women’s Institutes in the area.
It was a busy day of cutting out and sewing with around 50 pads being completed and a considerable number of bags. There had also been a significant number of briefs donated. The aim was to provide two sanitary pads and 2 pairs of briefs in a little bag. The packs will be taken back to India by Caroline’s daughter who is currently working as a midwife out there and she will coordinate the distribution of the packs to women who have just had a baby.
The project is running alongside the Cutting Edge initiative and Caroline’s daughter will also be taking the packs that Cutting Edge members have been making.
Update on numbers is as follows:
– sanitary pads – 80
– bags – 80
– knickers – 120
And here is a picture of the final stash that was made – well done folks!
