April 2019

First of all a warm welcome to Sheila – who visited us for the second time today. We hope that you enjoyed your day and look forward to seeing you again soon!

The blog has been updated It also contains a report of last week’s Dyeing to Paint session and a recent charity afternoon tea that a few of us supported with a craft session. A huge thank you to Pat and Jan for their support which was invaluable!

At last month’s meeting there was a lot of stash brought in for sale – some of which wasn’t expected. We don’t mind members bringing items that they no longer want or need but it can be a little chaotic if it is not planned. We are therefore thinking that an organised stash sale – that provides the opportunity for members to have a clear out – might be in order.

So….the July meeting will be used for just that! Tables will be provided in the little room off the main hall which members can use to sell their wares. We will need to have notification in advance that you will be selling (which can be for charity or for yourself) and you will have to look after your own goods. Plus …at the end you will be required to take home any items that have not sold. We hope that you find this helpful and look forward to hearing from you

The Make Do and Mend project is progressing well. Thank you to everyone who has made a contribution so far – your support is very much appreciated. Elaine has made a wonderful outfit for the doll that was donated and Jan and Truda have made a great start on the linen tablecloth which is now being passed on to other expert embroiderers!

The sanitary pad project for India – which also fits into Make Do & Mend – has received tremendous support and a HUGE THANK YOU is extended to all who have beavered away over the past month making sanitary pads and fabric bags. And, not forgetting the very thoughtful people who have donated knickers. We are confident that our donations will be very much appreciated when they arrive in India

A specific page has been set up on the blog for the Make Do & Mend project. It contains examples of recycling and a record of members work here . A page about the sanitary pad project has also been added. Please let us know if you have any ideas to share or examples of recycling that you have undertaken.

All information has now been sent out for Jan Webster’s Beatle bag workshop which is on 12 April. If you have any specific queries please email otherwise we look forward to seeing you there

Ystradowen village hall is also booked for 17 May 10am – 3pm for the recycled denim (or fabric of your choice) bag workshop. Note that there are some examples for the panels on the blog this month – one uses leather and the other is denim crazy patchwork. Requirements have been circulated. If you haven’t received them please let us know.. There is no charge for this session.

We are now starting to collect in work for our exhibition in the Pop Up Shop at the Old Hall between 17-21 September 2019. We require all submissions (including postcards) by the June meeting at the latest. As you know we are showing the exhibition that we had at Tapestri café, Swansea – so anything from that plus any new small pieces of work are most welcome. If you would like to sell your work you need to price it and we will be taking a 10% commission which will be used to pay for overheads. Help with pricing will be provided if needed. We also require volunteers to man the exhibition. Please speak to Liz if you are able to help as she is drawing up a rota. Poster and flyers will be circulated soon.

Ystradowen Village Hall has been booked form 5 November for Members Day – further details to follow in due course

All CE events and meeting dates are posted on the programme page of the blog
