Dyeing to Paint Again!

A whole month has gone by in a flash and time to paint again today – what fun!

It was great to see a few of the group taking up the challenge to paint their new aprons – and there were some stunning results as you can see here…

Alongside the apron embellishment Keris was busy getting on with Christmas

Liz was busy working on some fabric that she had dyed last month and she was also having a go with the stencils

Jan was getting her head round a little screen kit she had bought at a recent quilt show

Sally was trying out some stamps that she had made….

Rosie, along with a few others, was on a card making mission

And Fiona was experimenting with Inktense blocks

Amidst the frenzy of activity there were a few took a break to view the St Hilary telephone box which has been decorated to commemorate the end of the First World War and it features felt poppies that were amde by CE memebrs for the WW1 quilt project!

A Colourful Day at Cutting Edge

There was the usual buzz about the room at today’s meeting and some fabulous and colourful work displayed.

There was a lovely collection of quilts to view. Kerry’s was not only colourful but the quilting was amazing!

Caroline produced a lovely baby quilt to show and cushion covers that had recently been finished

And Carol’s quilt had an eyecatching design and colour combination

Frances’ quilt demonstrated a wondeful skill in crazy patchwork with dazzling colours and design

Marie Showed a fabulous cushion using quilt as you go

Hillary was busy on cross stitch

And Julie – embroidery. She had been experimenting embroidering on paper that she had made

Maggie was busy making a fabric book using linen and vintage fabrics with beautiful embroidered work

And Jan had completed a piece of work that she had created at last weeks Dyeing to Paint – a wall hanging for a small window – beautifully crafted using a variety of techniques

Corinne’s carrier for her red work had been made from a sample she made at a quilt show – encased in a beautiful contrasting batik fabric.

In addition to all this lovely wok the Project Linus quilt was finished off with a label attacjed to the back and Liz and Chris put the finishing touches to the Cowbridge Commemorative quilt which will go on display on 30 October

As always a fun day with lots of chatter and good humour!

A Bit of a Fishy Day!

Today we have a bit of a fishy story to tell which is to do with our forthcoming Swansea exhibition.

Members were tasked with making fabric fish that will eventually be made into bunting and hung at the Tapestri cafe
to enhance our exhibition – which is very much sea themed…

The extra windmills that some members of the group had made at home were also very welcome…

And one of the multi windmills had been completed

We are certainly going to have a very colourful exhibition – don’t forget to bring you sunglasses and bathers when you visit!

There was also a lot of work going on in the background to make new pieces of work for the exhibition.

Fiona showed a piece of work she had painted at Dyeing to Paint and two pieces that she had made with Hilary Beattie

Corinne showed a bed runner, called Ocean 10, that she has recently completed

In addition to all this there were many other pieces of work in the making or completed

Jeannie was making a quilt with silk fabric, which looked lovely

Amanda was busy making pages for her fabric journal

And Jane was in the process of completing a lovely bunny

Brenda showed a beautiful quilt she made when Glamorgan Quilters met in the Old Hall in Cowbridge, which is quite some time ago now. It is the view from the window over the gardens

Rosie and janet showed the group quilts that they have recently completed – their first quilts ever – which looked stunning. And, they are being donated to Project Linus

Last but not least the group Project Linus Quilt is progessing well though throwing up a few challenges hers and there. The long panels are now being sewn together so it shouldn’t be too long before it is completed. Well done to everyone involved, particulary today, Corinne and Sally who spent a lot of time making sure the sashing was accurate – and were very grateful for the advice provided by Julia

A Flying Start to the New Year!

The first CE session got off to a flying start today with great enthusiasm to be involved in various projects that are on the go.

In the far corner of the room a small group worked hard during the day to prepare the Project Linus blocks for quilt as you go and were extremely grateful to those who offered to take a strip home to sew them together.

And there was great enthusiasm to make the fabric windmills for the Swansea Festival of Stitch exhibition which takes place in August. What wonderful a splash of colour they are going to make. Many thanks to Sally for bringing her fabric stash along for us to use and many thanks to those who bought some of the fabric. £87 was raised which Sally plans to donate to a breast cancer charity.

Others were busy on various project – many of which are sea themed – I wonder why!!!

Hillary was making cushions to go with a quilt that she has recently made

Chris was embellishing some images that she created at last weeks Dyeing to Paint

Sally was sewing a fish which some lovely fabric that she said used to be her sister’s curtains!

Our guest Janet was busy making fabric windmills in a quilt as you go technique – what a coincidence!

Fiona showed everyone a beautiful bag she had made – it looks as though it is quilted but but the panels are painted!

And Jane showed a quilt that she has recently completed. Love the colours

A busy and productive day. Many thanks to everyone for their support which, as always, is very much appreciated!

A Jolly Christmas Lunch

Today’s CE session was mainly focused on yuletide festivities with a yummy Christmas lunch provided by group members. As usual there was a wonderful variety of delicious dishes to enjoy.

We also has delicious mulled wine prior to lunch which was lovingly prepared by our domestic goddess Sandra.

Before lunch however, there was lots of chatter and some even managed to catch up on a bit of sewing.

And we also had some show and tell projects to enjoy

Amanda brought a Christmas sack and stocking that she had recently made at a Sew Lovely workshop in Penarth and a lovely stitched piece of work that she had completed.

Jane showed a pretty quilt top that she had made

The day finished with a surprise package from Secret Santa with lots of good wishes

Thank you to everyone who contributed to lunch and helped make the day so enjoyable

Happy Christmas and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year!

Christmas is Coming!

It was a busy day at Cutting Edge today not only sewing wise but welcoming guests who dropped in to see what we get up to. And the great news is that we have welcomed four of them as new members! They are:

-Pat Earing
-Rosie Savage
-Janet Green and
-Frances Folley who has previosuly been a regular member of Dyeing to Paint. It is great that she is back now she has retired.

Whilst there were various projects on the go there was a distinct feeling that Christmas was in the air.

Dilys and Liz had their heads down most of the day making a Christmas table decoration as they weren’t able to get to the members day last week.

Whilst others showed off ones they had completed

Hillary showed everyone a beautiful little Christmas quilt that she had made

Corinne had made a beautiful Christmas tree out of Suffolk puffs

And Jane had been busy making some lovely little Christmas decorations

Other work that attracted attention was Pat’s bargello quilt which is near completion

Lesley’s autumn leaves quilt and fabric dog collar

Salinder’s completed pink quilt

Monica’s wrap which she forgot to model during morning prayers!

And Stephanie brought some of her coastal quilts to show – which will be fab for our exhibition next year

These two quilts won an award at a quilt show

And as if this was not enough we have received all the Project linus blocks back – THANK YOU so much everyone for generously giving your time. All that's left to do now is to sew it up!

Another busy day with lots of chatter and sharing of knowledge and skills – well done folks!

A Sew Happy Sewing Day!

Today’s session was, as usual busy, with members paying subscriptions and booking into workshops. And there was no shortage of nimble fingers busy creating alongside lots of chatter.

First off it was lovely to be able to welcome Jaci McQuillan, Amanda Randall and Caroline Leonard as new members to the group. We also welcomed Julie and Jane as guests for the day. We hope they enjoyed their visit.

It was great to see so many Project Linus blocks either being sewn together or handed in as they were completed. Many thanks to those who have given their time and skill.

And whilst on the topic of Project Linus Jeannie showed two beautiful quilts that she had made for the charity.

Liz was busy preparing for Friday’s community sewing session in the Lesser Hall, Cowbridge. And, Truda was a great fount of knowledge and wisdom to call upon.

Chris was busy adding the finishing touches to a daisy bookwrap that she recently made at Dyeing to Paint

and others brought their book completed wraps along to show. Apologies to those of you who were missed off the photo call!

Truda showed a lovely little book cover that she made earlier – twenty years earlier in fact!

Caroline showed a quilt a ‘pink themed’ quilt that she had made

and this is Jane’s first attmept at a quilt – wonderful colours Jane!

Amanda had made a lovely advent calendar

Fran shared a picture she had made at a recemt Hilary Beattie workshop

and Helen had been busy making baby clothes which will soon be winging their way to Australia. Such talent in the group – it is incredible!

Last but not least we said our farewells to Gilly who is moving to Cambridgeshire which she assures us is sadly lacking in sewing groups! We will all miss her cheery outlook and incredible sewing skills and wish her well in her new life.

Jan most of all will miss Gilly but Gilly assures us that Jan is on the way to being a whizz at skyping!

Another great day, with many more to come!

A Busy Start to the New Sewing Year

The September CE meeting was a busy one as it was the start of a new year’s sewing. Liz was at the helm collecting membership renewal fees and sharing news with members….

….whilst other members rallied round to help

Corinne encouraged people to make a block for the Project Linus quilt and was pleased that virtually all of the blocks had been taken. Plus a number have already been returned.

There was also great enthusiasm to make the table decoration on members day which is schedued for 7 November.

Glynis brought her copy of Patchwork & Quilting Magazine along to show members the article about our WW1 quilts which is rather impressive. Well done to everyone involved.

And, as ever there was plenty of completed work to show

Gilly and Dilys had made beautiful whole cloth cushions and dressed accordingly to complement the colours of them!

Jan seems to have moved into specialising in feet but thankfully not the human variety!

All in all a colourful day with lots to look forward to in coming months. WHow lucky we are to have such talented people in our group.

Sewing on a Rainy Summers Day

There was much to admire today at Cutting Edge. Corinne, Keris, Fran and Jan were keen to show off the quilts they had made on Friday at a Gail Lowther workshop – and stunning they were too!

And it is important to mention here that Jan used some of the fabric that she had dyed at last week’s DtP session. They do look rather stunning – well done Jan!

Brenda and Truda were busy working on current projects. Brenda was reaching the end of sttiching a whole cloth quilt – her 5th! Truda was working on a beautiful cross stitch. She was very expertly creating it with silks from her stock in an effort to use them up and she was using 26 count linen!!!!

Glynis brought along a quilt she started in 2006. After recently completing it she has had it long arm quilted. She also brought along a quilt that she has recently made and machine quilted hereself – quite the expert! Obviously with time on her hands she had also produced a lovely bag

Hillary brought along three pieces of work. Chives painted with a toilet roll on hand dyed fabric – which look fab. She stencilled flowers onto another piece and hand embroidered them and she showed some parasols which she stencilled onto fabric using freezer paper – very cheerful and summery!
