Dyeing To Be Noticed!

Well… today was a day to be noticed for our Dyeing to Paint members as they kicked off the new term with brand new aprons – how smart they look! And, lots of potential for customising them with some paint and print over the coming months.

Having had a summer break there was lots to talk about – our wonderfully successful exhibition in Swansea, holidays, family etc. etc. – along with a cuppa of course- so it was a while before anyone got down to the nitty gritty of putting the aprons to good use.

But Sally paved the way

And it wasn’t long before there was some wonderful pieces of work being created using stencils, thermofax screen prints and print blocks.

Then….. as if by magic it was Christmas!

Where did that year go?

Ice and a Slice!

At today’s Dyeing to Paint session we tried out ice dyeing – a simple process that requires fabric, Procion dies, soda solution and ice – not any old ice mind you – we used M&S ice cubes!

Glynis then introduced us to painting with a toilet roll which produced some lovely images of aganpanthus or alliums – whatever takes your fancy.

And, if that wasn’t enough there was a flurry of activity to dye fabric with Indian Inks

And Monica was block printing with a new pineapple print block

Another busy and enjoyable day with friends – always a pleasure!

A Cushion Created From the Painting Day

After experimenting with the print blocks and paints Monica decided that she really must make something from her samples and here is a little cushion.

The hearts are decorated with pink beads and outlined with a little embroidery, courtesy of Pam. The panel is bordered and backed with purple fabric
