Sew Much Enthusiasm

Another lovely day at CE! Lots of wonderful projects in progress and completed, and oodles of enthusiasm for the idea of producing a St Fagan’s Monopoly Quilt!

In addition to the planned St Fagans visits organised to inspire everyone to create a piece of work in stitch, paint, pottery, glass, wool, felt etc. the Monopoly quilt is designed to be a collaborative piece of work for those who would like to be involved……. and were were delighted with the comments, suggestions and enthusiasm to drive the project forward.

In between popping back and forth to view the draft paper plan there was plenty of chatter whilst working on individual pieces of work. Rosie was rightly pleased with her journal and making headway into filling it with little hand stitched pictures. The front and back of the book are covered with her hand printed papers too.

Janet was continuing with a new piece of work. A background of thistles which will eventually feature goldfinches. Looking forward to seeing the finished picture.

Amanda brought along a piece of sea themed work that she made at a recent workshop

Sally was making good progress with her gold work

And Isobelle was busy embroidering a page for her journal

Dianne had finished another of her lovely shell pictures and after a course at West Dean College Gilly was using what she had learnt to progress a similar picture.

Kerry showed a Cardiff Devils quilt that she had made . The smaller panels in the picture are logos of the oppostion teams and they be fixed to the main quilt when a match is being played. Kerry painted the tartan on the Glasgow panel as she didn’t have any tartan fabric!

And Fiona showed a lovely picture that she had recently completed at a workshop. The focus was on creating shading without using greys.

There are also a few images of other work completed by members who weren’t able to make the meeting

Caroline sent images of two colourful cushions – completed after following an online WI course

Pat sent a photo of her sashiko picture

Hilary sent an image of an embroidery

And Keris sent photos of her Dragon Quilt being donated to a school in Llantwit Major. Keris and her husband are pictured with their grand daughter who attends the school.

Finally, Monica showed some Welsh themed artquilts that she had made a while ago – to highlight that the St Fagan’s project covers not only what is found in the museum but also the Welsh culture – language, music, costume, traditions etc.
